DAY 1

I’m on the plane to Chicago, flying over all the East of the USA.

Chicago is the biggest city in Illinois (but the State’s capital is Springflied.)

Chicago has an old story, did you know it was founded by the French? By Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, the son of a French settler and a slave of St- Domingue (a French colony). Chicago was a part of New-France and the French Louisiana. But at that time it was just a village with a fort to control Lake Michigan. That’s why there is nothing French like in New Orleans or Quebec City.

Ho! My plane is landing I will keep writing in a taxi.

Hello back, here in O’Mane (the airport) I can see the all of Chicago’s skyline . It is gigantic, in fact it’s the second largest in the US, after NYC. Chicago has got 130 skyscrapers, there are buildings higher or equal than 500 feet. (152 meters ). And it’s normal because Chicago invented the concept of skyscrapers! The first skyscrapers of the world is the Home Insurance Building (42m or 137 ft), completed in 1885. But unfortunately it was demolished in 1931.

I left my things at my hotel, now we’re going to visit the south of the center!

I’m in Millennium Park which is the largest park of the city. It’s most of all known for the museums in and around the park. Just like the Institute of Art of Chicago! I’m just in front of it and do you know what road starts here? The legendary Road 66! This road connects Chicago to LA! But I’m more a cultural person, so I’m going to visit the museum. In it we can find masterpieces like the Great Wave of Kanagawa by Hokusai, Waters Lilies by Monet, American Gothic by Wood or Van Gogh’s Self Portrait. If you’re not
a museum person but steel an art person you can visit the Chicago theater, I’m also going to visit it! It’s very not far. This theater is still open and if you like musicals it’s the place to go!

The Great Wave of Kanagawa by Hokusai

I’m downtown and the skyscrapers are gigantic! It’s the perfect Chicago aesthetic that you can see in movies! It’s so cliché that the theater is at the foot of the Loop. The Loop is the nickname of the part of the subway system in the center of the city. Because it forms a loop. But this subway is aerial! The tracks are over the streets and between the buildings, and it’s the 3rd oldest subway system of the world! That’s iconic. But it makes so much noise! That’s terrible. And we have to add the noise of cars and people, it’s feels like a battlefield! I’m going to my hotel I will visit the other part of the city tomorrow.

Day 2

On this second day we’re going to visit the other part, on the other side of the river: Main Steam. This river divides/splits the city in two. It’s an iconic entertainment place of Chicago, every year on the St Patrick's day they dye the river green! Don’t worry it’s eco-friendly. Here there are the highest skyscrapers of the city, there are important in the USA because there are an “indicator” of the wealth of the city in the country. Unfortunately there are all gray and there are no trees here. It’s quite depressing.

To change our minds of all this gray we can go to Lake Michigan It’s so huge that it’s feels like a sea! But the access is difficult because they have built a freeway on the coast… Yeah you have the freeway, the dock and the lake, and don’t look for a beach, there are very tiny and the whole city goes there.

This second day is very short but I have to take the my plane for the rest of the USA. It’s also a very negative day but I think it’s important for everyone to be warned. By the way pay attention because the crime rate is high in the city. Goodbye and see you soon!
